Tax rate to remain at 13.5 cents per $100 valuation, By Maya Spikes Independent Tribune Tuesday, June 15, 2004

In other news, Mike Brown resigned Monday afternoon from his position as town councilman. Brown said his resignation was due to personal reasons and declined to comment further about his resignation.

By Michael Roessler Independent Tribune Tuesday, May 11, 2004. The council unanimously agreed Monday to pay for 30 percent of the cost to install nearly a mile of sidewalk along Rocky River Crossing Road in the Rocky River Crossing subdivision. Under the town's policies, the homeowners would be responsible for 70 percent of the cost. The town would pay the remaining 30 percent, or $34,500.

My Two Cents: Thanks to Mark Martin (Town Council Harrisburg and candidate for County Commissioner) I stand corrected. This is what happens when there is no UDO in place. Since the town had not established one yet the developer was allowed to get away with not building sidewalks. Then the developer decided to connect Roberta Road and Morehead Road.  So now the tax payers get to pay to build sidewalks to prevent risk of life to pedestrians. The UDO was established at the developers request and now they are objecting to it because it causes them to have to build things like sidewalks. So now we have good folks like Mark on the Town Council who prevent the council members, only interested in tax base, from allowing stupid things like this to happen. What to know more click here.

Harrisburg tax bills to go up next year

By Michael Roessler Independent Tribune Tuesday, May 11, 2004.

Because the town used $200,000 from its cash reserves this year to pay for a portion of the new town hall, Councilman Bill Williams said efforts should be made to rebuild the account next year. Most Harrisburg residents will likely receive higher property tax bills next year, despite the efforts of one town councilman to reduce the tax rate.

The Harrisburg Town Council will hold a public hearing on the budget on June 14 at 7 p.m. in the Harrisburg Town Hall.

Citizens of Harrisburg and county residents supported by the Harrisburg Fire Department rejoice! Brian Dunn has been brought back to replace Chief Greene. Please show your support for Brian. Send an E-Mail, contact the fire board and or city hall. This is great news.

By Michael Roessler Independent Tribune Tuesday, April 13, 2004. Harrisburg could soon have its own municipal fire department. The Harrisburg Town Council gave its tentative approval Monday to a plan that it will now ask county commissioners to endorse that calls for the town to take over the Harrisburg Volunteer Fire Department.

My two cents: Congratulations to the Town Council of Harrisburg. Something has happened with the new year and its great. They brought back Bryan, got rid of Greene and his cronies and now they are putting together their own fire department. After five years of dragging their feet, the Town Council, Fire Council and Bryan Dunn are turning things around in Harrisburg. This is the first time I have been able to say the Town Council is doing things right.

Harrisburg Mayor Tim Hagler has elected to make his e-mail address inaccessible to the general public due to too many unhappy citizens sending him e-mail. In part there were some obscenities, which should be avoided anyway. However, listening to the complaints of the citizens is part of the job he elected to take. Now citizens must leave a voice mail and hope for a return call.

Growth resulting from population boom harrowing for Harrisburg
By Michael Roessler Independent Tribune Tuesday, March 30, 2004.

Commissioner Richard Suggs said he is concerned about lowering the density of county-controlled land because it would impede developers’ ability to turn a profit on their projects.

He and Commissioner Coy Privette said they were worried about implementing town standards on land in the county’s jurisdiction, saying it would be unfair to subject county landowners to the standards of a government they did not elect.

“Should a municipality have authority over somebody’s land who does not live in that city?” Privette asked.

Below you can read all about what Mayor Tim Hagler of Harrisburg is doing to the cities of Cabarrus County.
